Poros is one of the most beautiful islands of the Saronic Gulf, known for its rich history, natural beauty, and easy access from Athens. It is an ideal destination for both short getaways and longer holidays.
The island lies at the southeastern edge of the Saronic Gulf, opposite Galatas in Troizina. Poros consists of two parts:
Poros has an area of about 23 km² and a population of around 4,000 residents. In ancient times it was known as Kalavria and hosted the famous Sanctuary of Poseidon, one of the region’s most significant religious sites.
Poros is famous for its lush pine forests that reach the shoreline and its picturesque beaches:
Across the water, on the Peloponnese coast, lies the famous Lemon Forest of Galatas.
Poet Giorgos Seferis was inspired here to write his poem “Kichli”, moved by the island’s serene atmosphere.
From Piraeus:
By ferry: about 2.5 hours
By hydrofoil: about 1 hour
By car from Athens:

Poros offers traditional tavernas with fresh fish and seafood, as well as cafés and bars along the port.
Local products include honey, olive oil, and citrus fruits from the nearby mainland.
Poros harmoniously combines history, natural beauty, and cosmopolitan charm. Whether for a weekend escape or a longer stay, it is a destination well worth discovering.
